150. Notes - a basic human condition

150. 14 June 2019

Late morning. Looking out your bedroom window from the slant position of the black lounger you see a grouping of daisies looking bright and cheerful next to the green well rain-soaked grass. Behind the daisies is the brown dirt awaiting sod cover some time this month. Your new neighbor, A.S., will be happy. - Amorella

1113 hours. Today is my friend, John Douglas Goss's birthday. I remembered to send him a b note a few minutes ago. We have been friends since the third grade (1951).

Carol and Cathy have been in the outback planting wildflowers from Cathy's garden. The sky appears blue and is windy still. - Amorella

1253 hours. I like your "windy still". Very funny.

Amorella is picking up on Soul humor. - mh

I have made acquaintance with Miss Havisham; it is not a usual feat when two unlikely spirits meet. - Amorella

1259 hours. Wow. I suddenly feel like I'm an Alice in Spiritland.

That's the short and tall of it, orndorff. - Amorella

       1306 hours. Good grief.

See, Mr. Orndorff, you can show some humor here too. - mh

1309 hours. I'm dumbfounded. (Is this a real word?)

Mid-afternoon. Carol and Cathy quit for the day and the four of you are going out at four-thirty for an early supper at nearby Max and Erma's on Maxtown and North State. - Amorella

1549 hours. I cannot grasp where this three-way conversion is going. I did not consider that the soul would be considered a spirit though I don't know how else humans would classify a soul. As such though, I need to classify Amorella as one type of spirit and Miss Havisham as another. I realize that metaphysics is not science but Angels have been classified so it seems to me lesser spiritual-like beings can be classified too. The thing is, I am, in part, a living biological body that has basically three spirits within. The heartanmind is basically my essential spirit. Miss Havisham is an immortal spirit that protects my essential spirit which is not immortal, and Amorella is, in this case, a kind, guiding spirit who helps me communicate with myself and with others through the usual process of writing or typing, though Amorella has also used my fore and middle fingers, with string and washer, hovering over an alphabet tablet method. (1602)

Suppertime. Carol is finishing up watering the new plants that she and Cathy put in today. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain. You had a good and fun supper with Cathy and Tod. You two paid saying it was for their June birthdays (Tod's is next week). They graciously accepted. - Amorella

You and Carol are facing northwest at Shale Hollow Park this evening. Carol is working on her Coben novel, Deepest Fear, page 242. You have so many questions about my new relationship with Miss Havisham, the first coming from the fact that you didn't know we could 'communicate' with one another without a reference to the live human of we three spirits. I don't know why you didn't think about this. When writing your usual fiction characters would talk to one another from time to time; you even heard their voices once in a while. - Amorella

1920 hours. I didn't mention that but maybe once or twice -- that's pretty serious stuff -- people can be put away for that type of behavior.

But it was type behavior, Mr. Orndorff. - mh

1923 hours. You are trying to get me to smile, Miss Havisham.  You are reminding me of small fun relationships between teacher and student. Male and female. Some students I could have easily adopted in real life, if they needed adopting. I thought of most of them as nieces and nephews or second cousins once removed. identified with them as loose family relationships because I cared about them. That was a safe way for relationships for me. Presently, maybe this is me as the student, and I am developing a closer relationship with my two friendly spirits, one being my soul and the other a kind older wiser spirit, a grandfather like Popo Orndorff. I knew him a lot longer because he lived a lot longer than Popo Schick. It might even stem as far back as Aunt Jemima, as my secret friend when I was four, five and six. I knew her from the cover of a pancake mix box. We would talk to one another, she was my imaginary friend. I knew that, but we had fun anyway. She kept me company when I was playing by myself outside or inside.

It might be because, for no known reason, you have always been lonely from the inside out even though, strangely, you have always had real friends on the outside looking in, observing the real you. Doug and Fritz and Steve for instance; and Laney as a close friend even though you are both married to someone else. All four touch your soul, me; no question about it. - mh

1946 hours. It bothers me that you are using "your soul" because 'your' shows possession and I don't want to possess you. I want us to friends, at least as a personification.

I am not a doll to be imagined on as alive, Mr. Orndorff. It is fine that people think they are owners of their souls, even though they are not. Human beings are built to survive as living in the material-physical universe. Once with the non-living the relationship develops, rather quickly, because human beings, in their physical and spiritual nature are not built to be alone. They are built for friends who need friends. This is how they survive physically and mentally. You know this. Most everyone knows this, deep down. Whether people accept this or not is something else. If they do not accept friendships, then they cannot accept themselves as human beings. Simple as that. - mh

       Post. - Amorella

1958 hours. You can be so abrupt, Amorella.

It is not time for you to be among the Dead, orndorff. No more tonight, my young friend. Post. - Amorella

2000 hours. I am understanding metaphysics and myself better, that is, my human condition better.

149. Notes - Experience with a capital

149. 13 June 2019

Afternoon. You noticed several hits yesterday and today on Encounters in Mind. I find it interesting and relevant to this blog so drop it in below as you already made a copy. - Amorella

1327 hours. I found it interesting because I had forgotten all about it, but this blog is about Miss Havisham and I don't see how that is relevant because it is a different subject.

Below is a heavily edited article recomposed into personalized 'article notes' for relevance to this blog. The more complete article can be read at: 'wikipedia.com - experience' or at encountersinmind@blogspot.com. Notes: 02 June 2026, titled, "The Dewdrop Discoveries - Selected Definitions". - Amorella

Experience

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia [Reduced to personal notes.]

Experience is the knowledge or mastery of an event or subject gained through involvement in or exposure to it. Terms in philosophy, such as "empirical knowledge" or "a posteriori knowledge," are used to refer to knowledge based on experience...

Experience plays an important role in the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard. The German term Erfahrung, often translated into English as "experience", has a slightly different implication, connoting the coherency of life’s experiences...

Two Types of experience

The word "experience" may refer, somewhat ambiguously, both to mentally unprocessed immediately perceived events as well as to the purported wisdom gained in subsequent reflection on those events or interpretation of them.

A. Subjective

1. Subjective experience can involve a state of individual subjectivity, perception on which one builds one's own state of reality; a reality based on one’s interaction with one's environment.

2. The subjective experience depends on one’s individual ability to process data, to store and internalize it.

B. Spiritual

Wired for the Ultimate Reality: The Neuropsychology of Religious Experience

It has now become possible to consider asking questions regarding how complex behaviors, thoughts, and feelings occur, even when they are associated with religious and spiritual experience . . . . Can we use our subjective sense of the absolute certainty of the objective reality of our everyday world to establish that that world is "really real"?

To simplify the issue somewhat, let us for the momentcontrast
the most extreme unitary state,
what we have calledAbsolute Unitary Being(AUB),
with baseline reality.

AUBrefers to the rare state
in which there is a complete loss of the sense of self,
loss of the sense of space and time,
and everything becomes an infinite, undifferentiated oneness.

Baseline reality demonstrates the following four fundamental properties:

•                1. A strong sense of the reality of what is experienced.

•                2. Endurance of that reality through very long periods of time, usually only interrupted by sleeping.

•                3. The sense that when elements in baseline reality disappear from all forms of sensory detection, they have ceased to be.

•                4. High cross—subjective validation both for details of perception and core meaning. In other words, other people corroborate our perceptions of the world, i.e., reality is a collective hunch.

Clearly, baseline reality has some significant claim to being ultimate reality.

However, AUB is so compelling that it is very difficult indeed to write off the assertion of its reality. . .

Neuropsychology can give no answer as to which state is more real, baseline reality or hyperlucid unitary consciousness often experienced as God.

We may be reduced to saying that each is real in its own way and for its own adaptive ends.

Thus, the essential characteristic of different states of reality are eventually reducible only to the strength of the sense of reality, the phantasia catalyptica of the Stoics, or the Anwesenheit (compelling presence) of certain modern German philosophers.

A vivid sense of reality may be the only thing that we can use to help determine what is really real until someone determines a method for going beyond the brain's perception of reality.

In The Mystical Mind, we explore the concept of neurotheology as a way to help better answer the epistemological question raised above — is AUB or baseline reality more real?

It might ultimately be best to consider both versions of reality to be complementary, rather than opposed, to each other.

However, this conclusion also has important implications for religion, theology, and the scientific study of religious experiences.

As a field, the neuroscientific analysis of religious and spiritual experiences is only in its infancy. Much more research must be pursued before we can begin to better understand these complex experiences.

Kim and Paul are home. You are home.  Carol is in bed reading her book and you are in the black lounger. The article above spoke of religious experiences but you prefer spiritual experiences. You would like another word for spiritual because it has cultural connotations. - Amorella

We souls have a word and while not fully translatable into English it is a word that states the opposite of 'materially-physics'; the base setting of the Living: the fully-unlacking, as in we souls are 'fully-unlackings'. It is a joke word. A wrong word, but more understandable to humans speaking English would be: we souls are 'fully-nothing'. Another would be: we souls are 'fullyfulls'. mh

2246 hours. Fullyfulls is the most fun to say, i.e. Souls are fullyfulls.

Let's use fullyfulls then. Variations of which are references to the opposite of the setting of the physical universe. Instead of a spiritualist you are a fullyfuller, at least in my book. - mh

2254 hours. Thank you very much, Miss Havisham. I am honored to be considered such by the soul I spiritually inhabit.

You see, you are learning a new perception of what a soul is, whether empty or holding a human's spiritual heartanmind. - mh

2300 hours. I am enjoying; delighting in the experience.

'Experience' is a good way to conclude today's blog. Post. - Amorella

148. Notes - an Exactness in each soul's nature

148. 12 June 2019

Wednesday. Hawks, Turkey Buzzards and Blue Herons comb the wind streams outside your bedroom window this morning. Hawks and Buzzards are in a variety of low to high circles while the Heron tend to have a straight to destination in mind. High cirrus coatings midst blue skies touching green filled trees ever so lightly. - Amorella

1029 hours. Excited to meet our friends at the nearby Rusty Bucket. Steve and Karen haven't been there before and wanted to try it. Fine with us, they have a good variety in their menu. I'm a bit embarrassed in that I want to show Steve the car to see what he likes or doesn't like about the design and technology; and, they haven't seen our house, so we plan to invite them over to give it a look on their way home. However, if they are going down to see their son and his family near Chillicothe then we'll invite them another time. In any case, it will be good to have lunch. Steve will tell you what he thinks about cars or anything else mechanical and with technology. Straight forward and to the point. I've never heard a lie and boasting out of this man ever. Neil Armstrong is the only other man I have met with such a personality. Both with electrical engineering backgrounds. Such delightful blunt honesty. It is the business of engineers to be honest and direct; more should run for political office. (1046)

You met Steve and Karen at 1125 and after lunch they stopped over and stayed until 1500. You four had a great time. Steve bought a new maroon Honda Insight EX hybrid about the same time you bought the Toyota. They really like it so far. His mileage is in the near sixties with some babying. You told him you were supposed to be getting 42 but only got 36. He said you don't know how full the tank was. There was a variety of conversation content which was interesting and fun too. Lots of smiles and laughs. - Amorella

Honest and telling conversations. Everyone learned more about the other. Even when you left to the cars you spent another fifteen minutes chatting about car stuff. Carol and Karen spent time talking about other family subjects when you two were on the 'nature' of your many previous automobiles. - mh

You are home from Heritage Park where Carol did her walk. Carol is at the island sorting mail. You are in the black bedroom lounger and Jadah is stretched out on the back of the bed looking exhausted after a hard day taking care of the house. - Amorella

1815 hours. I have a question, Miss Havisham. How do Souls know when other like souls are around? That is, do souls communicate among themselves private like or are souls obligated to communicate with their heartanmind 'passenger' human spirits?

Souls carrying no human spirits know the placement of other souls without human spirits. - mh

1823 hours. Oh. How would the soul not carrying a human heartanmind spirit know another soul carries?

Proximity. An insight, a presence, as an understanding or 'touch' as it were. An Exactness in each soul's Nature with each other soul. - mh

147. Notes - Here and Not Here is not for mh / bide

147. 11 June 2019

Nearing Noon local time. The day is cool but bright with few clouds. Today you are taking a ride in the new car; it has just five hundred miles on it but you pretty much have the operation down without much conscious thought. You are thinking of going up to Kenyon College to visit their bookstore since it has been a couple of years, probably ten or so, since your last visit. Carol is prepping. - Amorella

1155 hours. We are keeping the '19 Avalon Limited Hybrid for longer trips, mainly Florida in a couple of weeks. We'll meet Kim, Paul and the boys at Madeira Beach, at the Meiber's condo on a Saturday and stay with Linda and Bill before and after. Actually, I am having fun driving the '05 Honda EX six cylinder knowing we are fixing it up for another fifty or so thousand when we return. It is a fun car to drive; reminding me of my old 1985 VW GTI in terms of liveliness at the peddle. I'm glad we decided to keep it and trade in the '13 Avalon Limited Hybrid.

You just tried to call Steve and Karen and you got Steve's voice on the recorder. Just the sound of your old friend's voice dropped in here I'll have you know. You miss him and want to talk cars and the like just as you always have since the mid-fifties on. - Miss Havisham

1208 hours. I felt that surprisingly quick sense of joy in hearing Steve's voice. Thank you for telling me. Interesting.

Afternoon. You are at Shale Hollow Park. Carol is on her walk. Beautiful. You have the windows and the sunroof open. Woodsy sounds plus a few kids and their mothers. Tranquil enough for writing. Plus, while eating a light lunch at McD's Steve called. You are meeting them for lunch at the Rusty Bucket tomorrow at eleven-thirty. - Amorella

Mr. Orndorff, I have an idea. The first good question that comes to your head is the one I'll respond to. mh

1320 hours. You know nothing will happen. I freeze at that just as I would if someone were to ask our daughter's name out of the blue. Nothing. I go blank. Ha. Yep, blank as a bullet. I forget both your names. Amazon and Whinny, that's what comes up. Nothing I can do but sit here like an old log. (1327) Amazon and Whinny.

You accidently glanced up to see "Amorella" at 1328 hours. Miss Havisham just popped in at 1329 hours. Nine minutes before one of the names popped into consciousness on its own. What do you think about this? - Amorella

1332 hours. No one would believe this unless I had them as a student or otherwise witnessed me go blank. I have lots of witnesses over the years. In can be quite embarrassing, especially if someone new asks my name. At social gatherings, especially connected with school friends I would check my driver's license, put it in my shirt pocket so that I could glance down at it if I froze. That is how I adapted. (1336)

You are home after a pleasant drive up Old South State to State Route 36/37 then returned via Africa Road leisurely driving 45 to 50 miles per hours on low traffic time roads. - Amorella

You want to ask where you are consciously when the 'blanks' occur. Privately, you joking call it Elsewhere. This also happens other times, though not often, when at home. Never has happened when focused, such as when driving. - mh

1459 hours. I do go Elsewhere from time to time, but only when I am alone and contemplating not so much. Everybody does this. My mother used to do this all the time, usually when doodling on a notepad by the phone or at the kitchen table. I don't know where Elsewhere was but it wasn't Here and Now. I don't like that you bring up these things because they are embarrassing, and believe it or not, I find it rather embarrassing to talk about myself unless it was in the classroom and I was making a point, generally about literature and/or the basic human condition. Besides, it generally evoked humor in the classroom. Classrooms need room for humor most every day, at least mine did. Maybe it was just a non-alcoholic stupor. That's sometimes how it felt though with no hangover. That is not exactly the same thing as the earlier quick memory loss, but it is close.

Thank you for the clarification, Mr. Orndorff. - mh

1517 hours. Sorry, Miss Havisham. Sometimes my mind keeps rolling along and I keep talking to myself; over the decades I keep writing down my thoughts like they mean something. My fingers naturally keep punching the keys. Maybe, deep down, I like to see the words pop up. I love words. They quietly keep me company. I'm friends with all of them as far as I know. Actually, maybe it's really the alphabet I'm friends with. I don't know which I love more, individual letters or individual words. I'll ask Google. 'What is a person called who loves words?'

The only word I remember seeing in print before is logomaniac.

Do not erase the above. - Amorella

Later. Carol is out watering the outback wildflowers she planted along with those that came up naturally. You are beginning to attach yourself to the house. The back and east side back window scenes are interesting at different times of the day and season, particularly with the heavily leafed trees along the old fence. - Amorella

1658 hours. Miss Havisham, sorry for the interruption. From your perspective, please, where do I go when I am not consciously here, like when I forget who I and others are and when I'm 'Elsewhere'?

Nowhere. It is as a private Absolute-Nothing setting. You have no conscious reference to yourself (your id, ego or superego). Your consciousness might as well be a drifting roll of fluff. - mh

1715 hours. I never thought to say it in terms of no conscious reference to myself, but that is certainly more specific than Elsewhere. So, consciously, at those times I am not Elsewhere I am as Dead and never Here. That's funny.

A more precise statement is "I am as never Here." -mh

1723 hours. That is an interesting point. "I am as never Here." That is indeed humorous: Here and Not-Here. This reminds me of Schrödinger's cat.

Schrödinger's cat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects. The scenario presents a hypothetical cat that may be simultaneously both alive and dead a state known as a quantum superposition, as a result of being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.
The thought experiment is also often featured in theoretical discussions of the interpretations of quantum mechanics. Schrödinger coined the term Verschränkung (entanglement) in the course of developing the thought experiment.

Quantum entanglement

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon that occurs when pairs or groups of particles are generated, interact, or share spatial proximity in ways such that the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently of the state of the others, even when the particles are separated by a large distance.
Measurements of physical properties such as position, momentum, spin, and polarization, performed on entangled particles are found to be correlated. For example, if a pair of particles is generated in such a way that their total spin is known to be zero, and one particle is found to have clockwise spin on a certain axis, the spin of the other particle, measured on the same axis, will be found to be counterclockwise, as is to be expected due to their entanglement. However, this behavior gives rise to seemingly paradoxical effects: any measurement of a property of a particle performs an irreversible collapse on that particle and will change the original quantum state. In the case of entangled particles, such a measurement will be on the entangled system as a whole.
Such phenomena were the subject of a 1935 paper by Albert Einstein, Boris Podolsky, and Nathan Rosen, and several papers by Erwin Schrödinger shortly thereafter, describing what came to be known as the EPR paradox. Einstein and others considered such behavior to be impossible, as it violated the local realism view of causality (Einstein referring to it as "spooky action at a distance") and argued that the accepted formulation of quantum mechanics must therefore be incomplete.
Later, however, the counterintuitive predictions of quantum mechanics were verified experimentally in tests where the polarization or spin of entangled particles were measured at separate locations, statistically violating Bell's inequality. In earlier tests it couldn't be absolutely ruled out that the test result at one point could have been subtly transmitted to the remote point, affecting the outcome at the second location. However so-called "loophole-free" Bell tests have been performed in which the locations were separated such that communications at the speed of light would have taken longer—in one case 10,000 times longer—than the interval between the measurements.
According to some interpretations of quantum mechanics, the effect of one measurement occurs instantly. Other interpretations which don't recognize wavefunction collapse dispute that there is any "effect" at all. However, all interpretations agree that entanglement produces correlation between the measurements and that the mutual information between the entangled particles can be exploited, but that oany transmission of information at faster-than-light speeds is impossible.
Quantum entanglement has been demonstrated experimentally with photons, neutrinos, electrons, molecules as large as buckyballs, and even small diamonds. The utilization of entanglement in communication and computation is a very active area of research.

Later. You are Here, orndorff. Your imagination just doesn't stop. You are thinking about creating a character who can be Here and Not-Here at the same time. A superhero detective of sorts: an old-fashioned Mickey Spillane character with modern day thinking like Amazon's Prime Time "Harry Bosch". - Amorella

1938 hours. One could make a bumbling character like Peter Seller's film The Pink Panther with an existential and entangled twist. Very funny. Some characters don't know whether they are coming or going, this one doesn't know whether he's Here or There . . . and what if it doesn't make any difference in the long run. Dark humor run amuck. That's all I have at the moment. (1945) . . . Well, maybe dark humor or light humor -- the viewer takes her or his pick as the show moves along with a slight political theme depending on what country the viewer lives in. Now, I'm done. (1951)

Do not erase, orndorff. Do not apologize. - Amorella

Mr. Orndorff, my perspective on today's fit of humor is this. A Soul is where a human's spiritual heartanmind is. 'There', as a word with meaning, does not exist for me in this context. Enjoy your evening and your lunch with old friends tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.  - mh

       Post. - Amorella

2201 hours. You are a kind sensitive soul, Miss Havisham. I am honored that you hold my humbled heartanmind. I am hardly worthy.

Your ever-doubts are understandable. Bide by who you are. mh
